Private Pilot Licence in India

In order to get Private Pilot License, you at lest need 40 hrs of flight time per DGCA requirement. Most likely it will take additional 10 to 15 extra hours. Out of this, 20 hours need to be solo time. There will also be some theory papers which you need to clear for PPL.

Duration of the PPL training depends on several factors such as
1) your ability to proficiently perform required maneuvers
2) weather
3) availability of aircraft
4) availability of instructor.

You need to hold class III medical certificate. If you take these in to consideration then it can take anywhere from few months to 1 yr. In regards to cost, it ranges between 2.75 to 3.50 lakhs if fuel price does not increase.

If you interested in obtaining Commercial Pilot License (CPL) then it requires 200 flying hours. It takes 2 to 3 yrs to compete 200 hour and cost will be around 16 to 18 lakhs. It requires class II medical; but, if you intent to work for airline then you have to hold class I medical certificate.

Cost: If you enrolled in flight school in India; then, it will cost you anywhere from 18 to 20 lakhs. In USA, it will be around 20 to 22 lakhs including housing and food and transportation.

Duration: In Indian, it will take 2 to 3 years depending on availability of instructor, airplane and weather condition. In USA it will take 6 to 10 months except instructor and plane availability is not a problem with the schools in USA.

Flight Training: You need to obtain private pilot license first. It requires 60 hours of flying then need to obtain instrument rating then commercial pilot license. Total of 200 hrs of flight time for CPL. Flight schools in India does not need to provide CPL training in complex aircraft. Benefit of obtaining CPL training in USA would be that you would receive 10 hours of your CPL training in a complex aircraft (aircraft with retractable landing gear and variable pitch prop). You need to pass air regulation, air navigation, aviation meteorology and technical written test conducted by the DGCA for PPL and CPL. CPL issue by FAA in America is convertable in to DGCA CPL; but, you need to pass written test in four subjests stated above.

Job Prospect: Currently, there is significant shortage of qualified pilots in India, China, East Asia and Middle East, Europe and USA. Starting salary of a pilot is 1.5 to 2.0 lakhs per month in India.
